Michael Thompson has been immersed in sales, marketing and business development for his entire career. He is a strategic, creative leader who thrives on helping businesses and individuals create value for themselves, their companies and owners. His areas of specialty include sales strategy, market analysis, and salesforce.com optimization.
The digital media revolution is upon us, and in 2014 Michael worked with StudioNow as their Chief Revenue Officer to establish a sales and marketing strategy.
As SVP of Sales and Marketing for Fleet One, LLC, a commercial credit card company based in Nashville, he grew the business organically for eleven years, resulting in the sale of the business to WEX, Inc. in October 2012. This business grew from 80 employees to 250, from an unprofitable company to an enterprise valued at $369 million. During his 11 years, Michael was an integral part of the management team which purchased the company from SunTrust with the aid of two private equity firms, then sold it four years later to a public company, WEX Inc.
Michael has been actively involved in the evolution of credit, debit and stored value (gift) cards. Being involved as the industry migrated from paper processing to electronic authorization systems, billing, and financial settlement, the industry participants and suppliers are all very familiar to him after 22 years. Michael previously held roles at Harmonic Systems, Oasis Technology, NPC and NaBanco, all of whom have been acquired by larger companies. His work in this industry has provided Michael with knowledge of consumer spending, retail operations, and commercial payment systems. Maximizing productivity for himself and his sales teams, he implemented salesforce.com and other CRM systems for his previous employers. Prior to this, Michael began his career with Unisys, a major technology player, which provided him a strong foundation with technology.
He is a founder, investor and Board Member of A-Game Sportsplex, a 170,000 square foot multi-sports center in Franklin, TN. A-Game has an economic impact of over $15mm annually for the cities of Franklin and Brentwood. Michael is also an investor in The Gardner School, a national chain of preschools, and its development arm, Viking Development. Other personal portfolio companies include Leankit, BallParc, and other investments through ParkIT Ventures, LLC.
A Rhodes College graduate in 1986 with a BA in Business, he now shares time with his wife Marcia in Brentwood, TN and Fort Lauderdale, FL. They have two children; one at the University of Alabama and the other at Furman University. They are members of Brentwood United Methodist Church, and the non-business time is spent on photography, biking and travel.
